Travis: Excellent. How would I find out if the entity name that I want to use is available for use? Jake: There are several different ways, and several different standards that the states have. In some cases, you have to call the state. But you have to be able to set up an account with them, or pay over the phone to check the name. Some states, you can check their websites. But one thing about that is that they're usually a week to two weeks behind, possibly even three, depending on where they're at. Travis: That's a long time. Jake: One of the things that we do is we use some legal databases to check the names, and if they're available or if they're not available. So those are the methods that you use. Each state varies in what names they will allow and what names they will not allow. The standard is not the same across the country. Travis: Wow. I know that I've actually formed a couple of Incorporations through LegalZoom myself, and on your questionnaire you ask for three versions of the corporate name that you want to use. Is that for that reason –– because you just don't know which one the state's going to accept? Jake: Exactly. We do a very thorough name check, so if the first name, when we do the check, comes back and is not available, we'll go to the second name and then go to the third name. And then we'll contact you for more names if necessary. Travis: Right. Which you've actually had to do with me, before. Jake: Right.
